ROGER DALE COX SR.

Roger Dale Cox Sr., 69, of Hayes, died Sept. 20, 2017 at Riverside Regional Medical Center after a lengthy illness. 

Roger was a Gloucester native born Aug. 17, 1948 to Leslie and Sarah Cox. He was a true Marine serving his country during the Vietnam War and received numerous medals including the Purple Heart Medal.

Roger enjoyed working in his garden, camping and listening to bluegrass music. Roger’s grandchildren were his pride and joy. He was a great guy that was loved, is missed, and will always be cherished.

He was preceded in death by his parents; stepson, Michael Howlett, and brother, Leslie Cox Jr.

He is survived by his loving wife, Betty Jean Cox; sons, Dale Cox Jr. (Nikki) and Chris Cox (Carol); grandchildren, Trey Cox, Bobby Cox and Anna Cox; stepdaughter, Micky Nieman (Jerry); five stepgrandchildren; sisters, Lynne Clarkson (Frank) and Joyce Jenkins, and brother, James Cox.

Funeral service conducted by the Rev. Bud Goude was held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 23, 2017, at Hogg Funeral Home, Gloucester Point. Interment followed in Rosewell Memorial Garden Cemetery. The family received friends Friday, Sept. 22, 2017, from 7-8:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
