Rockfish season begins Sunday

The fall season for rockfish, also known as striped bass, opens in Chesapeake Bay waters and bay tributaries at midnight Sunday. The season continues through Dec. 31.

One fish a day may be kept, and it must measure between 20 and 36 inches, according to regulations adopted by the Virginia Marine Resources Commission.

In other saltwater fishing news, Nate Dolan of Gloucester received a citation from the Virginia Saltwater Fishing Tournament for a 13-pound, 4-ounce sheepshead he caught on Aug. 30 using crab as a bait at the concrete ships at Kiptopeke.

Also, Taylor Mitchell of Hayes received a catch-and-release citation from the tournament for a white marlin caught while trolling Sept. 4 in Norfolk Canyon.

The citation list is updated weekly and posted each Wednesday on vasaltwaterjournal.com.
