Robins to pitch for U.S. in international softball trip

Kayla Robins has been playing competitive softball ever since she was a very young girl, from travel teams to high school and now college. And now the former Mathews High School star can add international-level competition to that list.

Robins, who was seventh in the nation last year in strikeouts while pitching with the Fairmont State University (W.Va.) Fighting Falcons, will represent the United States on Team AIST (American International Sports Teams), traveling to Paris and Amsterdam for 10 days in late May to play teams from Amsterdam, Paris and Belgium.

Players are selected based upon success they have had in past years on the diamond. The 2013 Mathews High School graduate was a standout hurler on the Lady Devils’ team, winning all-district honors twice, being named Pitcher of the Year and earning all-region honors as a freshman.
