Robins records no-hitter in 6-0 win over Lancaster

The Mathews High School varsity softball team picked up two wins during the week, easily defeating Lancaster at home and West Point on the road.

Mathews faced Lancaster on Friday for the third time this season. The Mathews bats didn’t come alive until the fourth inning, when the Blue Devils plated two runs, adding four more in the fifth inning for a 6-0 victory.

Kayla Robins was impressive on the mound, coming within one walk of a perfect game, instead settling for a no-hitter with nine strikeouts. Leading the Mathews charge was Taylor Denton with two hits (two RBIs) and Kaitlin Eriksen with two hits. Adding one hit each was Hunter Thomas (one RBI), Sammi Rutter and Sydney Morgan.

On Monday, Mathews traveled to West Point for a Tidewater District contest. Mathews jumped on the host team in the second inning as Taylor South started a two-out rally with a single.
