Robins named CIAA Pitcher of the Week

Former Mathews High School standout Kayla Robins has been named the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association’s Softball Pitcher of the Week. The Chowan University sophomore tossed two shutouts for the Hawks this past week to earn the CIAA honors.

The right-handed hurler threw seven scoreless innings against Barton College on March 25 and allowed just three hits while striking out four batters.

The Mathews native then followed up with another three-hit shutout performance against Elizabeth City State University on March 29.  Robins tallied nine strikeouts this past week.

The Hawks ended the week with a 3-1 record after a split against Barton College and sweep of Elizabeth City State University. Chowan posts a 14-8 overall record on the season and 8-0 mark in conference play. ...
