Roberts Furniture opens Yorktown showroom

Roberts Furniture & Mattress will hold the grand opening of its new showroom in Yorktown from 6-8 p.m. Friday.

The store is located on Route 17 near the railroad tracks, several miles south of Yorktown. The retail location housed a large antiques business for many years, next to Charlie’s Produce.

Jay Roberts, one of the store owners, said the grand opening celebration will feature refreshments, product discounts, and a special appearance by John Bassett III of Bassett Furniture, who wrote a book, “Factory Man,” about the Chinese selling furniture well below cost to hinder American trade.

Roberts Furniture & Mattress previously had a store in Gloucester’s Edgehill Town Center, which closed last spring. Roberts said the family-owned business saw an opportunity to move to much larger quarters on the heavily traveled stretch of Route 17.
