ROBERT WESLEY HURST

Robert “Bob” Wesley Hurst, 76, of Hallieford, went home to be with his precious Lord and Savior on Sunday, Jan. 13, 2019, while surrounded by his loving family.

Bob graduated from Mathews High School, Class of 1961. He worked at the Virginia Pilots Association of Virginia Beach in excess of 30 years. In his earlier years, Bob was a committed member of St. Paul’s Methodist Church. He currently was a faithful member of Cornerstone Fellowship Church where he served as a Stephen minister as well as on the Greeter and Counter teams.

Bob loved spending time at the beach with those who lovingly called him Honey, Daddy, Dad and Papa. He also enjoyed playing golf with his son and friends. Bob loved all sports, but particularly football. However, there was a constant conflict as to which team to root for: Virginia Tech or UVA? He was a man of true service and it gave him great pleasure to give to others.

Bob was preceded in death by his father, William B. Hurst. Survivors include his mother, Gertrude B. Hurst; his loving wife of 54 years, Nancy; his children, Greg and wife Maria and Jeff and wife Meri Lynn; brother, Bill; brothers-in-law, Jerry (Alice) and Keith (Sue); granddaughters, Jordan and Mallory; and great-granddaughter, Holley Grace.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 19 at Cornerstone Fellowship Church, 2243 Buckley Hall Road, Dutton, Va. 23050. The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. prior to the service at the church.

Donations may be made to either Cornerstone Fellowship Church, P.O. Box 126, Cobbs Creek, Va. 23035; Emmaus, P.O. Box 639, King George, Va. 22485 or Riverside Foundation, c/o Cancer Care, 608 Denbigh Blvd., Suite 700, Newport News, Va. 23608.

Faulkner Funeral Homes, Foster-Faulkner Chapel, Mathews, is assisting the family with arrangements.
