ROBERT TABB THRIFT SR.

Robert Tabb Thrift Sr., 81, passed away on Thursday, July 30, 2015, at his home in Afton, Va.

The son of the late Moses W. and Grace South Thrift, Bobby was born and raised in Gloucester County. He was an Army veteran and he enjoyed outdoor activities. A former member of Harcum Hunt Club, Bobby enjoyed many days afield hunting. Selflessly involved in his community, he was always willing to help others. He had and showed a tremendous love of his family—and although he was soft spoken he spoke with purpose and wisdom. He retired from Exxon as a truck driver, a passion he continued into his later years.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Gwendolyn W. Thrift; his children, Tammy Toddy (Mark) of Panama City Beach, Fla., Terri Roberts (Jim) of Denton, Texas, Robert Tabb Thrift Jr. (Tammy) of Weems, Va., and Nanette Chinen (Troy) of Kingsland, Ga.; his sister, Nell Brothers (Lewis) of Heathsville, Va.; nine grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild; his niece, JoNell Robertson (C.T.) of Mechanicsville, Va., and his best friend, Alice Rose and her family.

Funeral services were held on Sunday, Aug. 2, 2015, at the Salem United Methodist Church by the Rev. Rita Staul. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made to the Gloucester Volunteer Fire and Rescue.
