ROBERT STUART BRIZENDINE

Robert Stuart Brizendine, 74, of Hampton, died Monday, Nov. 25, 2013.
 
A native of Roanoke, he had been a Hampton resident since 2006. He served in the U.S. Coast Guard as an instructor, retiring in 1978 after 23 years of service. He then went to work as Supervisor of Maintenance, first at Eastern State Hospital and then for the Virginia Institute for Marine Science. He enjoyed fishing.
 
Preceded in death by his wife, Claudette Brizendine, survivors include three daughters, Roberta Greenslade and her husband Charles, Barbara Huguley and her husband James, and Joanna Murphy and her husband John; a son, Robert Brizendine and his wife Tina; a sister, Joyce Headford; a brother, Carlyle Brizendine and his wife Mildred; 12 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
 
The family received friends from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2013, at Berceuse Funeral and Cremation Traditions. A graveside service with full Coast Guard honors was conducted at 2 o’clock Tuesday at the Albert G. Horton Jr. State Veterans Cemetery, Suffolk.
