Robert Stanley Ward of Mathews, departed this life to be with the Lord on Jan. 25, 2016.

He was born on April 21, 1921. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Louise Hunley; his parents, Robert Lee and Elva Ward, and his sister, Mae.

Stanley is survived by his daughters, Nancy Smith (Lee) of Bohannon, Va., and Mary Diggs (Chip) of Mathews; nine grandchildren, Elaine Bahr (John), Michelle Denkinger (Mark), Lisa Minor (Brandon), Brian Smith (Chelsea), Wendy Harlow (Ryan), Randal Diggs, Andrea Diggs (James), Kristen Fitchett (Frankie), Leighanne Rivera, and 12 great-grandchildren.

Stanley retired from Newport News Shipbuilding in 1983 where he worked in the Riggers Department.

Funeral services were held at Foster-Faulkner Funeral Home, Mathews, Va., on Wednesday, Jan. 27, 2016, at 11 a.m. Burial was at Windsor Gardens, Dutton, Va.
