Robert Sherman Cosby Jr. passed away on Nov. 19, 2020. He was born on Nov. 3, 1941 to the late Robert S. and Elsie M. Cosby.
Robert Jr. was a proud member of the Thomas Hunter High School class of 1960 in Mathews, Virginia. He worked for Newport News Shipbuilding. After 43 years of service, he retired as a Master Shipfitter in 2003. He was an avid Dallas Cowboys fan and a member of Zion Baptist Church.
Robert Jr. is survived by his wife of 47 years, Mary Spriggs Cosby; a son, Robert A. “Bobby” Cosby of Mathews, Va.; five daughters, Devin Cosby of Gloucester, Deidre Morgan (Terry) of Valrico, Florida, Melissa Cosby of Suffolk, Va., Yvette Griffin of Stratford, Conn., and Tonia Carter of Gloucester; 12 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren; one nephew, and a host of cousins and friends.
A viewing was held from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 24 at the funeral home. A private funeral service was held at noon Wednesday, Nov. 25 at the funeral home.
