ROBERT PHILLIP MCGEE

Robert Phillip McGee died Nov. 26, 2018 at home in Gloucester Point.

Phil was born March 10, 1923 in Dinwiddie, Virginia. He served his country during World War II in the Army and also during the Korean War. During World War II, he was in the Army Corps of Civil Engineers stationed in the Philippines and New Zealand.

After WWII, he was grateful to use the GI bill to complete his civil engineering degree at Virginia Tech where he graduated in 1950. He also graduated from George Washington University Law School in June 1956.

He enjoyed his career with the Atomic Energy Commission and the Department of Energy as an engineer, and after retiring in 1981 with over 30 years of service, continued as a consultant for the Department of Energy and National Laboratories until 1991.

He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 76 years, Alice Temple McGee, and six children, Robert Temple McGee, Jeffrey Lee McGee, Patricia Wheeler, Michael Scott McGee, John Christopher McGee, and Janet Elizabeth McGee; as well as seven grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

He was a devoted member of Bethany United Methodist Church.

The family will receive friends on Friday, Nov. 30, 2018, from 6:30-8 p.m. at Andrews Funeral Home & Crematory. A funeral service will be held at Bethany United Methodist Church, 1860 Hayes Road, Gloucester Point, Va. 23062 on Saturday, Dec. 1, 2018, at 10 a.m. Burial will be at Forest Lawn Cemetery, Norfolk, Va., at noon.

In memory of Phil, the family suggests contributions be made to Bethany United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 527, Gloucester Point, Va. 23062 or to Abingdon Rescue Squad.
