Robert Lee Greene, a true waterman, devoted family anchor, and avid outdoorsman, passed away peacefully at his home in Hayes, surrounded by his family on Monday, June 22, 2026. He was 86. Born in Gloucester County, Robert Lee spent his entire life as a waterman. Whether working on the boat or sharing stories of their catch, on the “Miss Pearl G,” he possessed a rare knowledge of the river that defined his character. He was a member of Beech Grove Baptist Church and a proud longtime member of the East Dragon Hunt Club and Wicomico Hunt Club. Above all, his family was his greatest pride. Robert Lee was the ultimate grandfather. He famously never missed a single sports game, tournament, rain or shine, hot or cold, for his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He taught his family how to navigate life with integrity, humility, and unconditional love.
Parents, William and Pearl Jenkins Greene; siblings, Loretta Greene, Vivian Oliver, Dorothy Oliver, and William James Greene Jr., preceded him in death. Robert is survived by his devoted wife, Marian; his children, Terry Stevens (Billy), Ronnie Greene (Kim), and Michael Greene (Jennifer); six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; brother, Harold Wayne Greene; numerous nieces and nephews, including a special niece and nephew, Eddie and Angie Oliver. The family will receive friends at Hogg Funeral Home on Thursday, June 25, 2026, from 6-7:30 p.m. The funeral service, conducted by the Rev. Dr. Richard Croxton, will be held at Beech Grove Baptist Church on Friday, June 26, 2026, at 1:30 p.m., followed by interment in Rosewell Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
