ROBERT LAWRENCE GROVES

Robert Lawrence Groves, 82, of Williamsburg, died May 31, 2014 at Hospice House of Williamsburg.

Bob graduated from RPI which is now VCU. He was an active member of Williamsburg Baptist Church, the Williamsburg Masonic Lodge No. 6 AF & AM and the Abingdon Ruritan Club.

Bob retired as a writer from the Naval Mine Engineering Facility, Naval Weapons in 1989. After his retirement Bob was a graphic designer for Hogg Memorial Consultants and was instrumental in designing a memorial for the Naval Academy. His graphic work was outstanding. Bob enjoyed fishing, nature and anything to do with the outdoors, and traveling with his wife.

He was a very well-liked individual, an incredibly good husband, father and grandfather. Each person that knew him was uplifted by his wisdom, leadership, friendship, counsel and dedication.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Virginia Lee Lewis Groves; two daughters, Rebecca Clements and Beth Bond and fiancé Robert Hite; two grandsons, Robert Clements and Travis Bond; great-granddaughter, Mayleigh Bond, and many friends.

A Celebration of Life service conducted by the Rev. Nancy Moore and the Rev. Wendell Wright, Chaplain (Col.) U.S. Army, Retired, will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, June 5, 2014, in Williamsburg Baptist Church with Masonic Rites by the Williamsburg Masonic Lodge No 6. Inurnment will be private.

In Bob’s memory, contributions may be given to Hospice House of Williamsburg, 4445 Powhatan Parkway, Williamsburg, Va. 23188.
