ROBERT FRANKLIN BROWN

Robert Franklin Brown, 81, of Hayes, known as “Captain Bobby” of the “Connie Lynn,” born Dec. 8, 1935, went home to Heaven, Feb. 20, 2017.

He was a lifetime Gloucester native gentleman, the epitome of a humble, kind and generous man. He made his career as a honest, hardworking, dedicated waterman. He blessed many, many others with the blessings and provisions the Lord provided for him. He was a devoted family man of 11 children. He never failed to show his “unbreakable” love to all.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 43 years, Betty Brown; infant daughter, Connie Lynn; his parents, Henry and Elizabeth Brown, and brother, Henry Brown Jr.

He is survived by one son, Gerald Brown; nine daughters, Robin Marshall (Jerry), Sheila Dehart (Ray), Betty Dolan (Jim), Pam Throckmorton (Dave), Lisa Lisi (Bobby), Tammy Fox (Tab), Vickie Byrum (Randy), Tiffany Dawn Neiss (Mike) and Rhonda Lynn Brown (fiancé Brian); two sisters, Goldie Smith and Corrine Gentile; brother, Thomas Brown; extra special nephews who filled each day with laughter, Mike Shackelford, Howard Brown, and Jamie Brown; nine grandchildren, Bridget (Matt), Robby, Taylor, Breanna, Nolan, Bryce, Braxton, Maria and Adrienne; two great-grandchildren, Hannah and Cameron; his longtime girlfriend, Sandy Dehart, and his dog, “Charlie.”

The family would like to extend special thanks to Riverside Hospice for the wonderful care given to Bobby and his family during his illness.

Funeral service officiated by the Rev. Bill West and the Rev. Thomas Bunting will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 23, 2017, at Union Baptist Church. Interment will follow in Rosewell Memorial Garden Cemetery. The family received friends Wednesday, Feb. 22, 2017, from 6-8:30 p.m. at Hogg Funeral Home, Gloucester Point.
