ROBERT ELLIOTT STEELE

Robert Elliott Steele of Gloucester, went to be with his Lord on January 12, 2026. He was born in North Carolina on July 5, 1944 to the late Thomas E. Steele and Edith Forrest Steele. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Jeanine Tracy Steele; his sister, Betsy and brother, John. Robbie is survived by his loving wife, Carolyn Hooper Steele. He is also survived by his son, Greg (Tracy) Williamson; daughters, Wendy Williamson (Craig) Hall and Tina-Margaret (Stephen) Steele, and son, Kory (Emily) Steele; his twin brother, Ronnie Steele. Robbie also is survived by five grandchildren, Erick and Summer Williamson, Hannah Hall, Nikki Poole, and Elijah Steele.

Robbie and Carolyn were high school sweethearts, but life took them in separate directions. They then later met back up in 2017 and were married. After graduating from Poquoson High School, he went to work at the Newport News Shipyard for several years. Later going to work as a supervisor at the BP Oil Refinery in Yorktown, Va., Robbie was a member of the Pipefitters and Plumbers Union. He was deeply devoted to Newington Baptist Church, a member of the Property Committee, Guest Program, Christmas Shoebox and several mission trips as long as he was able. Robbie helped with the GUEST Ministry and Food Pantry at church. He also helped coach the Little League team his son played with.

Robbie’s family, friends, and community were his greatest joys in life. Those fortunate to know him experienced his humor and wit firsthand. He truly made the world a funnier place. Wherever Robbie went he made friends and touched lives with his kindness. His love and kindness were reciprocated throughout his life by love and kindness from folks whose lives he had touched. Robbie Steele was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and friend. Once you were his friend, it was forever and would do anything for you. Visitation will be held Saturday, January 31, 2026, from 11 a.m.-12 p.m. at Newington Baptist Church, Gloucester, with services starting at noon with pastor Chris Grella and Pastor Mike Gray. Burial will be in Newington Baptist Church Cemetery.
