Robert Edward Crone “West Virginia’s Finest,” age 73, died peacefully surrounded by his loved ones on Saturday, Feb. 1, 2020, in Newport News.

He is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Janice Crone of Gloucester; his children, Ginger (Paul) Doss, Robert Crone Jr., Donna (Tim) Parks, Karen (Dennis) Rector, Rebecca Crone (Rick Dickinson), Greg (Penny) Crone, Jody Lee (Sharon) Crone; 13 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; siblings, Reginald “Gene” Crone, Charles Crone, John Crone, and Lillian “Sissy” Frazer. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, Reginald and Elizabeth Crone; his dear daughter, Lisa Crone-Price; his grandson, Jason Dravenstott; sisters, Sue Mundy and Ann Miller.

He was born the son of a coal miner on Aug. 17, 1946 in Minden, West Virginia. He was a great family man, a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. His greatest investment was in people. To most who knew him, he was a Master Tradesman; to his family he was much more than that. He was a God loving man who enjoyed fishing, camping, tinkering, and his family most of all.

The family would like to express their gratitude for the outpouring of love, support, care, and prayers. Family, friends, and others whose lives he touched were invited to the following service.

Viewing was at Petsworth Baptist Church, located at 2471 Hickory Fork Road, Gloucester, on Tuesday, Feb. 4, 2020, from 4-5:30 p.m.; with a service following at 6 o’clock, conducted by Pastor John Pouchot.

We will be taking him back home for a graveside service to be held on Thursday, Feb. 6, 2020, at 11 a.m. at High Lawn Memorial Park, located at 1435 Main Street, Oak Hill, West Virginia. 

Flowers can be sent to Andrews Funeral Home in Gloucester.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to Petsworth Baptist Church in memory of “Bob.”
