ROBERT ‘BOBBY’ H. LECLAIR JR.

Robert “Bobby” H. LeClair Jr. of Gloucester, born on September 17, 1958, in Boston, Mass., passed away, on February 26, 2026, surrounded by his beloved family after a hard-fought battle with cancer. His life was defined by his sense of empathy, optimism and unwavering devotion to family.

Having grown up in a family of small means in inner city Boston, Bobby possessed the grit and life experience that shaped his character. At 17, he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps. Though initially a total fish out of water, he excelled in his military career. While home on leave in 1979, he met and married Margaret “Meg,” who remained “his person” throughout their 47-year marriage.

After a brief period out of uniform, Bobby joined the Army Reserve, supporting helicopter maintenance at Fort Devens and later Fort Eustis. His military service spanned decades and multiple deployments. In 2007, he served 18 months in Baghdad with a Civil Affairs unit as Master Sergeant, crediting his effectiveness to his teammates, his Marine Corps training, and his experience as a kid on the streets of Boston.

Following his retirement from the military in 2011 and from his civilian role in 2015, Bobby dedicated his time to his family, his dogs, and woodworking—Bobby made most of his kids’ furniture. Known for his extroverted nature and deep gratitude for life, he valued every opportunity to bring loved ones together.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Gladys, and his brother, Andrew. He is survived by his wife, Meg; his children, Alicia (Michael) and Jameson (Hunter); siblings, Deborah, Linda, Mark and Scott, and dogs, Jack, André and Sophie.

The family will receive friends at Hogg Funeral Home on Saturday, March 14, 2026, beginning at 1 p.m., followed by a Celebration of Life service in the chapel at 2 o’clock. Military funeral honors will follow. The inurnment is private.
