Robb advances to state golf championships

Gloucester High School golfer Zach Robb tied for ninth place in the Group AAA Eastern Region Golf Tournament this week, earning a slot in the state championships.

Robb had rounds of 78 and 76 at the Nansemond River Golf Club on Monday and Tuesday for a two-day score of 154. Kellam High School teammates Trey Smith and Alex Lloyd were first and second overall with scores of 141 and 142, respectively.

The Kellam golfers won the regional title with a team score of 585, followed by Western Branch, First Colonial, Great Bridge and Gloucester. The Dukes posted a fifth place score of 660. The state event is scheduled for next week, also at Nansemond River.
The Gloucester golfers advanced to the regional after easily taking the Peninsula District team title. The Dukes tallied 2,609 strokes over the eight-match PD schedule, 101 strokes ahead of second-place Woodside with 2,710. Kecoughtan was third with 2,834.
