Road work prompts changes to this year’s Daffodil Festival

Because of ongoing construction on the Fox Mill Bridge on Business Route 17, the Daffodil Festival Committee has announced that some changes will be made regarding registration and participation in this year’s Daffodil Festival Parade, scheduled for March 24 in Gloucester.

Denise Carter, special events supervisor for Gloucester Parks, Recreation and Tourism, said the committee is limiting the number of entries and length of the trailers in this year’s parade. Horses will also not be allowed this year, she said.

These decisions were made based on several factors, Carter said. First, the area that is generally used for parade check-in and readying entries for the parade is also the storage/work area for the construction. The additional equipment in the parking lot will also make it a bit harder for entries to cross the lot to the parade line-up area, she added.
