Road work begins Thursday on Route 3

Milling and paving work is scheduled to begin today, Thursday, June 6, on Route 3 (Twiggs Ferry Road) in Mathews and Middlesex counties, according to a press release from the Virginia Department of Transportation.

The work will begin in Mathews and will be done on several sections between Routes 198 and 33 near the Twigg Bridge, which crosses over the Piankatank River, said the release. The portion in Mathews will be from Dixie Drive to the bridge, while the Middlesex portion will be the entire 3.2 miles between the bridge and Route 33.

Drivers can expect a single lane closure from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Thursday and Friday, as well as Monday through Friday of next week. Flaggers will direct one-way, alternating traffic, said the release. No work is expected to take place over the weekend, and paving should be completed by Friday, June 14.
