River Club residents express concern about rezoning

Residents of the River Club at Twin Island came out Tuesday night to express their concerns about a proposed rezoning for a part of the Hayes community.

River Club was originally rezoned to Planned Unit Development (PUD-1) in 2004 by the original developers with the condition that 54 condominium units in three buildings would be constructed on approximately 2.62 acres, but never were. The construction of condos was seen as the most viable option given the housing market in 2004, according to a planning staff report.

The current property owners contend that the housing market today indicates townhomes as a more financially viable option. The proposed rezoning would change the condition of the PUD-1 to reflect construction of 39 townhomes instead of condos along the waterfront portion of the community.

Several residents of River Club sent in their opinions of the proposed changes, many of which were against the rezoning.
