Richmond photographer featured artist at Bay School

Photographer Nancy McGuffie of Richmond is the October Artist of the Month at the Bay School Community Arts Center in Mathews.
McGuffie photographs old, abandoned buildings and the treasures that can be found inside them. As a young child, she became obsessed with abandoned buildings while she and her sister were searching a wooded area near their neighborhood for the family Christmas tree. They found an old, abandoned farmhouse that fascinated her, and she continued to explore it every chance she had.
The fascination continued into adulthood, and over the years, she has traveled to 30 states and discovered asylums, restaurants, and factories in addition to homes. During that time, her artwork became therapy, as well as a hobby. McGuffie’s work may be seen at the gallery at 287 Main Street, Mathews, or online at bayschool-arts.com/collections/nancy-mcguffie.
