RICHARD N. CHILDERS

CMSGT Ret. USAF

3/15/39 – 7/28/16

Born in Clarksburg, W.Va., and passed away suddenly while visiting his daughter in Nashville, Tennessee.

He was a former resident of the Peninsula and Mathews, Virginia, until 2009 when he and his wife Mary, settled in St. Marys, Georgia.

CMSGT Richard Childers retired from USAF after 27 years of distinguished service and then spent another 20 years in Civil Engineering. During his career, Rick spent one tour in Vietnam, two tours in Germany, one tour in Iceland, and state side at Shaw AFB and Langley AFB. 

He was a Master Mason in good standing with Oriental Lodge #20, Mathews, and was a member of both Mathews Baptist Church and Kingsland Baptist, Kingsland, Georgia.

He was predeceased by his wife of 37 years, Mary Ellen Childers; their grandson, Cory David Jensen, and four brothers.

He is survived by one brother; four children, Deborah Ambrose, Larry “Gene” Laughery Jr., Richard Childers Jr. and Dawn Jensen, along with many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held in Mathews at a later date. All family and friends will be notified.
