Rice elected school board chair

The Gloucester County School Board elected former board vice chairman Robin Rice as its new chair during its Aug. 13 meeting at the T.C. Walker Education Center.

The board needed to reorganize as former chairman Jarret Lee resigned his seat on the board effective Aug. 14., just four months shy of the end of his first four-year term. Lee and his family are relocating to New Kent.

The board also elected Elisa Nelson as its new vice chairman, replacing Rice. Nelson represents the York District on the board. Rice currently represents the Ware District, but is seeking an at-large seat on the board in the November election.

The new chair and vice chair will hold those positions from Aug. 14 until the board performs its annual reorganization during its Jan. 14, 2020 regular monthly meeting.

Also, during the meeting, Gloucester High School summer graduate Seven Mikah Valentine Fuhr-Gregory received his diploma in a special ceremony.
