Rezoning case subject of joint public hearing Tuesday

The Mathews County Planning Commission and Board of Supervisors will have a joint public hearing at 7 p.m. Tuesday on a rezoning application. The meeting will be held in the historic courthouse.

Marie J. Seavey of Gloucester has requested that property she owns at the corner of Buckley Hall Road and Windsor Road in Dutton be rezoned from Residential-2 to Business-2 in order to turn the structure into a four-unit apartment building. The building currently has two upstairs apartments, with an office for a construction business downstairs. Seavey plans to apply for a conditional use permit for the apartment building if the rezoning is approved.

Planning and zoning has recommended approval of the request, subject to several stipulations, including that the owner present proof of septic service, compliance with off-street parking minimums, and acquisition of a VDOT land use permit.
