The 7th Virginia Regiment of the Continental Line will commemorate the 238th anniversary of its forming with a colonial encampment from 10 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Saturday on Gloucester’s historic court circle.

Activities will include encampment, troop formations and roll call by authentically costumed re-enactors, said Hilton Snowdon, tourism coordinator for Gloucester Parks, Recreation and Tourism. The program also will include drilling of volunteers and musket firing demonstrations. Cannon firing will take place across from the court green.

Snowdon said the public is invited to participate and all those recruited for service will receive a certificate.

At 3:30, a wreath-laying ceremony will be held at the monument in the court circle in honor of the members of the 7th Virginia Regiment and all veterans who have served their country.

A public celebration begins at 6 p.m. upstairs at the nearby Gloucester Museum of History, featuring a fiddler and traditional dance.
