Revere Gas wins top safety awards from insurance carrier

Hartfield-based Revere Gas recently received two top safety awards from the Preferred Energy Group, the company’s insurance carrier. This is the sixth straight year the company has won a top award from PEG.

During PEG’s annual meeting, Revere received the Vice President’s Safety Award and the Chairman’s Safety Award.

The awards are based on insurance claims and safety measures that Revere and its employees take, including safety training and safe fuel handling procedures among others, said Jay Hilliard, safety and fleet director for Revere.

The Vice President’s Safety Award recognizes an exceptional level of safety achievement over the last year, said Jim Trotter, the company’s director of sales and marketing, while the Chairman’s Safety Award recognizes the best overall safety performance among the PEG members for the three most recent years.

Hilliard said Revere specializes in propane gas, with offices in Hartfield, Gloucester, Warsaw, Williamsburg, Providence Forge and Burgess.

Revere serves customers from the James River to the Potomac River and west to the Richmond area, Trotter said. Revere employs 70 workers and has a fleet of 80 vehicles.

The company is looking at new technologies, Trotter said, and started a new division, Revere Air, that offers heating and air conditioning services in the Hartfield and Burgess markets.

Revere will watch how well that division is received in deciding whether to expand to its other markets, Hilliard said.

The company is owned by the Revere family of Hartfield.
