Revere Gas marks 75 years in business

Revere Gas, a local propane supplier, celebrates 75 years of serving the community this year. According to Jennifer White, sales and marketing manager for Revere Gas, Inc., the company will be offering a series of promotions throughout the year in honor of the milestone.

White said that when the late H.L. Revere of Middlesex purchased a gas range for his wife Elizabeth in 1942, there was no local supplier of propane. So Revere, a farmer, began delivering propane cylinders to those who needed them from his farm trucks. “He had seven original customers,” White said, “and that’s how the business got started.”

She said the company has since restored the first truck Revere purchased that was dedicated solely for propane cylinder delivery, and that truck is often seen in local parades today.

The couple had one child, the late Charles Revere, who took over operation of the business after graduating from the University of Richmond.
