REV. MICHAEL WAYNE JACKSON

The Rev. Michael Wayne Jackson (Pastor Mike), 66, of Gloucester, passed away on Saturday, Dec. 9, 2017.

Born in Fort Worth, Texas, he lived in Gloucester for nine years serving as pastor of Bethel Baptist Church, Sassafras.

Pastor Mike was active in the Gloucester community, extending to everyone a friendly “hello, I’m Pastor Mike of Bethel Baptist Church.” He never met a stranger. He was well known throughout the county, meeting many at his favorite Saturday morning activity, the yard sales.

He served his country in the Air Force from 1970-1974. Following his tour, he worked in the food, beverage and entertainment industry in Dallas and Los Angeles, living the fast life as he described it, until he traveled to Richmond. He had his personal Damascus experience during this trip and was called to “preach the Word.”  He has used every opportunity to do this in Gloucester, including his radio time at the local station.

A great love for God, his pastoral and singing ministry was far-reaching. His was a life well lived, never to be forgotten. During all his years of illness, he never gave up and remained faithful. He will be greatly missed by friends and family.

He is survived by his wife, Linda Henderson Jackson of Gloucester; two sons and one daughter; four sisters; one brother, and six grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at Bethel, 2978 Hickory Fork Road on Saturday, Dec. 16 at 11 a.m. with Elder Jean Cunningham, pastor of Cornerstone Fellowship, officiating and his pastor, the Rev. Louis Jones of Gravel Hill Baptist, preaching the eulogy, both of Richmond.
