REV. JAMES W. TAYLOR

A funeral service for the Rev. James W. Taylor, 78, Gloucester, was held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 28 in Shepherdsville Baptist Church, Gloucester. He died Jan. 23, 2018.

In 1954, at the age of 15, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served for two years, and then served in the Air Force for 10 years. He became a disabled veteran in 1967 and received an honorable discharge.

He completed a two-year certificate in finance at Oakland Community College, graduated with a two-year degree in ministry from the Smith Evans School at Virginia Union, and earned a bachelor’s of arts degree in Philosophy of Religion at Christopher Newport University.

He was founder and CEO of Church and Community Resources, Inc., Real Estate Broker CEO of Realspec Realty, was a substitute teacher with Gloucester County Public Schools, and held a position in security with Rappahannock Community College. He was an associate pastor of Shepherdsville Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife of 42 years, Elnora Christine Taylor; brothers, Andrew Taylor, Michael Taylor; sisters, Alice Carol Davie, Kimberly Gail Bostic, and Terraina Joy Taylor; two daughters, Delphi Burton and Lenora Nikitin; a stepson, Glynn Garfield Talbert, and four grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Andrew and Melba Taylor; son, Anthony Taylor; sisters, June Elaine Ellington and Betty Joanne Taylor, and brothers, Gary Arnold and Melvin Theodore Taylor.  

Interment followed in the church cemetery.

Arrangements were by Carter Funeral Home, Denbigh Chapel.
