Restoration work begins

The restoration of the historic Sibley’s Store foundation began this week, with Ace Movers on the scene Tuesday morning, preparing the building to be raised so a new foundation can be built, water-damaged support beams can be replaced or reinforced, and a drainage system can be installed. The project will also include creating a new hyphen between the older part of the store in the back and the newer structure in the front that will house an indoor handicapped-accessible staircase, a kitchenette, a bathroom, and a mechanical room. The rickety exterior steps, enclosed in the structure that the lift is adjacent to, are slated for demolition. Ace Movers will elevate the building, while Morse Enterprises is in charge of the overall renovation.
