Residents urged to vote ‘no’ at town hall program at Living Waters Church

A town hall was held Saturday morning at Living Waters Church in Dutton to encourage Mathews residents to vote “no” on a constitutional amendment to redraw Virginia’s congressional districts outside of the normal decennial process. Voting in the special election for the amendment began on Friday, with the final day of voting on Tuesday, April 21. If passed, the amendment would create 10 congressional districts leaning Democratic and one probable Republican congressional district across the state. Currently, Virginia has six Democratic districts and five Republican districts. Mathews resident Brenda Pogge, who represented District 96 on the Peninsula for 12 years in the Virginia House of Delegates, was the featured speaker.
