Repurposing for a purpose

In getting ready for the Gloucester-Mathews Humane Society “Bootleggers’ Ball” that will take place on Saturday, Feb. 7 at the Abingdon Ruritan Club building in Bena, business owners and GMHS volunteers teamed up to prepare an item that will  be part of the silent auction. Rick and Christie Crews, owners of Marketplace Antiques in White Marsh Shopping Center, donated a 1940s secretary. As part of a furniture painting workshop, local Gloucester resident Tammy Knight of Renewed by Paint, along with volunteers Mike Ivey and Connie Fulton, repurposed the piece that will be sold to the highest bidder on the night of the event.  Marketplace also supports GMHS by donating a showcase where you can find unique antiques and other items and 100 percent of the sales support the shelter.
