Repairs are scheduled on the Route 223 bridge over Milford Haven in Mathews on Monday. Brief traffic stops will be required while repairs are underway.
The parts needed to repair the clutch on the bridge barrier gate have been ordered and Monday has been scheduled for their installation, said Kelly Hannon, a spokesperson for the Virginia Department of Transportation.
While installing a new barrier gate on the bridge several weeks ago, Hannon said, crews discovered a mechanical part was broken and needs to be replaced. The clutch prevents the gate from falling after being raised and brings it down slowly.
The barrier gate was destroyed in a vehicular crash last November, Hannon said, and a new gate had to be fabricated. ...
