Rep. Wittman addresses health care, other federal issues

Rep. Rob Wittman (R-Montross) met with a small group of invited Democrats and progressives, along with one Republican, on Friday afternoon in the Gloucester County Emergency Communications Center on Justice Drive.

The meeting was requested by Mathews resident Lynn Jaeger and moderated by Mathews resident Morgan Moss, but the location was arranged by Wittman’s staff. The meeting was not advertised in advance and not open to the public.

Those who attended expressed their concern over the current administration’s actions on health care, the environment and immigration, questioned the president’s ethics, and expressed embarrassment at his behavior. They also questioned Wittman’s support of the current administration.

Accused of always voting with his party rather than his conscience, Wittman pointed out that he had voted against the president’s recent health care plan, even though he had been called into the Oval Office twice.
