Remembering Pvt. Gardner

Franklin R. Lemon, deacon emeritus at Gloucester’s Shepherdsville Baptist Church, took time out of his day Monday afternoon to pay tribute to James Daniel Gardner. Gardner, a Medal of Honor recipient, served during the Civil War as a private in Company I, 36th U.S. Colored Troops and is remembered with a marker on the Gloucester court circle. Lemon read the marker’s inscription aloud then said a silent prayer on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
