Registration underway for Wharf to Wharf Swim, to be held Aug. 15

Registration is underway for the Wharf to Wharf Swim, a one-mile open water swim in the East River to be held on Saturday, Aug. 15, starting at 10 a.m. The swim is sponsored by the Mathews Outdoor Club, with registration online at mocva.net. The cost to take part is $50. The swim will start and end at Williams Wharf Landing, with a turnaround diagonally across the river at the historic Hicks Wharf site. Swimmers will start in waves. The Pufferfish Wave is for swimmers using swim aids, fins and flotation devices, even a raft. It’s for people who are not strong swimmers or who want a relaxing swim, the sponsor said. The Tuna Wave is for people using no swim aids, taking no more with them other than swimsuit, cap and goggles.Awards will be presented at 11 a.m. Swimmers will be up against last year’s fastest times, as follows: Jessica Williamson, 20:13.1; Chase Miller, 20:41.8; and Annabella Carter, 22:44.7.
