Registration is open through July 29 for the new Virginia Preschool Initiative preschool class beginning this fall at Mathews Elementary School.

Information packets are available at the school, Mathews County School Board office and the county Department of Social Services.

To be eligible, the student must be 4 years old by Sept. 30, a Mathews County resident and the family must meet income requirements.

Items needed for registration include the child’s original birth certificate, proof of income (copy of 2020 W-2 form, one month pay stub, proof of receiving benefits), and immunization record, and physical (can be faxed to 804-725-3428). Completed applications will be considered on a first-come, first-served basis.
