The Mathews Outdoor Club is taking registration for its June 27 Islander Regatta, a trip around Gwynn’s Island by kayak, stand-up paddleboard, canoe, or any other paddle-powered watercraft.

The nine-mile paddling event starts at 8 a.m. at 633 Old Ferry Road; registration is $65 per person. The regatta is open to paddlers ages 14 and older.

The launch is from the Islander Hotel property. The route takes paddlers under the island bridge, through Milford Haven, out into the Chesapeake Bay and Piankatank River shorelines, and return to the starting point.

The club has rest stops along the way, to provide music, refreshments, portable toilets, floating rubber ducks and “plenty of encouragement” from volunteers and fellow floaters.

The U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary and local volunteer boaters support the regatta. Post-paddle refreshments will be provided at the end.
