Registration deadline approaches primary elections

The deadline is quickly approaching for voters interested in casting their ballot in the June 11 dual primary election in Gloucester and the statewide Democratic primary. The last day to get registered to vote or make changes to your name or address to be eligible to vote in the primary is May 20.

The primary will be held at normal polling locations from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m.

The Democratic Party requested the primary for the offices of lieutenant governor and attorney general. Meanwhile, Republicans requested the primary to pick the GOP candidate for the at-large seat on the Gloucester County Board of Supervisors.

In the Democratic primary State Sen. Ralph Northam is challenging former U.S. chief technology officer Aneesh Chopra for the party’s nomination for lieutenant governor, while Mark Herring challenges Justin Fairfax for the party’s nomination for the office of attorney general.
