Register early: A big election is on the way; be sure you can vote

Registrars in Gloucester and Mathews are encouraging residents to register early in order to vote in the Nov. 8 presidential election and to be prepared with all of the information they need to cast their ballots in order to cut down on long lines at the polls.

Aside from choosing between Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump and Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton and potentially others (presidential candidates have until Aug. 26 to file), voters in Gloucester and Mathews counties (and the rest of the 1st Congressional District) will vote on the seat currently held by Rep. Rob Wittman. Running against the Republican incumbent are M.D. “Matt” Rowe, a Democrat, and Glenda Gail Parker, an independent.

Voters will also have the opportunity to vote on two proposed amendments to the state constitution.
