Regional spelling bee deadline extended to Jan. 11

Adult Literacy on the Middle Peninsula, Inc., has extended the registration period until Jan. 11 for public, private and home-school groups for the Scripps National Spelling Bee.

 

Program director Rhoda-Jo Stress said Adult Literacy is reverting to its previous approach to working with participants. Once a school is registered and spellers are known, ALMP volunteers will become the coaches for the students and prepare the students for the school, district and finally, the Gloucester-Mathews Regional Spelling Bee on March 15, 2014.

 

Each registered school and homeschool group will be eligible to send a total of eight student participants to the regional event. Schools are able to register online at www.spellingbee.com, paying the $120 base fee plus $75 late registration fee. Home-school groups pay $89 plus the $75 late registration fee. The original fee deadline was Oct. 15; the first extension deadline was Dec. 13.
