The public is invited to a first-person presentation in Gloucester Court House on Sunday as reenactor Richard Cheatham becomes John Clayton, the world-renowned 18th century botanist from Gloucester whose work was instrumental in the publication of “Flora Virginica,” the first and only compilation of Virginia’s plants for more than 250 years. The presentation, which will be held from 2-4 p.m. at the Edge Hill House (corner of Main Street and Route 14) is being sponsored by the Gloucester Woman’s Club and the Gloucester 250 Committee. In this colorful and enlightening encounter, Cheatham will recount Clayton’s history, wilderness adventures, scientific achievements, and friendships with leading minds of the Enlightenment such as Benjamin Franklin and Carl Linnaeus.
