Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, the American Red Cross is issuing a plea for blood donations to help ensure people in communities across the United States receive needed care. All blood types are needed, especially types O+ and O-.

Upcoming blood drives in Gloucester and Mathews include: Feb. 22 from noon to 6 p.m. at Grace Covenant Presbyterian Church, Gloucester; April 19 from 1:30 to 6:30 p.m. April 19 at the Piankatank Ruritan Club, Hudgins; and, April 26 from noon to 6 p.m. at the Church of St. Therese, Main Street, Gloucester.
