Records decides not to seek second term

Gloucester County School Board Chairman Charles Records announced Tuesday that he will not seek re-election to a second term. 

Records made the announcement in a Facebook post and school division superintendent Walter Clemons confirmed the announcement Wednesday. 

Records was unopposed in his bid for an at-large seat on the board in 2013. His term expires on Dec. 31 of this year. In his post, Records said it was not an easy decision, but he had decided to not run for re-election. 

Records also cited several accomplishments made by the board during his tenure, including creating a comprehensive plan, lengthening the school calendar to 176 days, opening the new Page Middle School and the hiring of Clemons.

He also said he was appreciative of the opportunity to lead the board as chairman and would forever be grateful for being elected by the citizens of the county to serve on the board.
