Reassessment underway in Mathews

Real estate reassessment is underway in Mathews County, and Commissioner of the Revenue Les Hall said it’s expected to continue until around October 2016.

Currently, one assessor is traveling around the county assessing parcels, said Hall, but two more assessors are expected to join her in the next couple of weeks. Wampler-Eanes, a company based in Daleville, but with a satellite office in Gloucester, is conducting the assessment.

Hall said the process began a couple of months ago, when assessors spent time in his office gathering information on comparable properties from the county’s records. Then, around six weeks ago, the assessor picked one map section from the county’s cadastral map to begin assessing, and she has progressed from there. She is identifiable by the magnetic sign on her vehicle that says “Mathews Reassessment.”
