RCC clears $55,000 at Preakness party

For the second year in a row, a sellout crowd of more than 350 attended Rappahannock Community College’s Preakness Party, which benefits the school’s Educational Foundation (RCC/EFI). The seventh annual event was held May 21 at Indian Banks in Richmond County and was matched previous years to clear $55,000 in support of the college foundation, according to RCC spokesperson Tom Martin.

In addition to raffle sales and auctions, event proceeds came from sponsorship contributions by a number of businesses and private donors, Martin said.

"These funds will go to the RCC Educational Foundation to support its mission of providing student scholarships, professional development opportunities for RCC faculty and staff, support staff activities, and other educational programs," said Vic Clough, dean of college advancement.

In seven years, the party has netted approximately $350,000 for the Educational Foundation, Martin added.
