RAYMOND J. MONTIGNY

Raymond J. “Monty” Montigny, 81, of Mathews, Va., died Feb. 8, 2013 at Walter Reed Convalescent Center.

He was the husband of Katherine Marshall.

Mr. Montigny was born in Putnam, Conn., on May 15, 1931 to the late Joseph and Alice Geleneau Montigny. He graduated from Putnam High School in 1949. Monty retired after more than 25 years of service from the Virginia Institute of Marine Science as Senior Electrician where he designed and installed electrical service to the Ferry Pier and performed electrical maintenance and inspections on all the buildings. In 1995 he received the Outstanding Classified Employee Award.

Mr. Montigny was a member of Kingston Parish Episcopal Church. He often went out of his way to stop and help animals that were injured and carry them for medical attention. He would spend his free time working on special projects from save seahorses to loggerhead turtles.

Memorial service conducted by the Rev. Gary J. Barker was held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 3, 2013, at Hogg Funeral Home, Gloucester Point. Inurnment will be in Connecticut at a later date. The family received friends from 1-2 p.m. prior to the service on Wednesday at the funeral home.
