The Rappahannock Industrial Academy Alumni Association will hold a Virtual Family Reunion at 3 p.m. Sunday on Zoom. The public is invited to join.
The event is billed as a family reunion because it will bring together a network of persons who have embraced the association’s goals to document and preserve the history and legacy of the RI Academy, an institution that provided secondary education for African Americans from 1902 to 1948 near Dunnsville in Essex County.
The association awards scholarships annually to high school seniors from Essex, King and Queen and Middlesex counties. The 2021 winner for Essex is Jordan Garner, who plans to attend Old Dominion University with a major in sports medicine.
The Middlesex winner is Airiana Beverley, who will attend Ferrum College to major in nursing.
